Monsoon interprets sophisticated contemporary hits across genres: rock, alternative, jazz, blues, country, R&B/soul. Sensitive to each new space and group of people, we are happy to adapt to our host’s needs. We play to entertain those who want to listen, dance, or celebrate life with others in a musical atmosphere that encourages good feelings and warm friendships.
We’re reinterpreting songs or artists you know and love Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Eric Clapton, The Beatles, Crosby Still Nash, and Young, Patsy Cline, and Smokey Robinson. And we’re spicing things up with contemporary artists: Lady A, Lady Gaga, John Legend. We regularly add new songs to our repertoire and are happy to welcome suggestions.

Steve 'Hurricane' Hill
Steve began playing the guitar at age 10. Living in the San Francisco Bay Area, there was no shortage of musical influences and inspiration. Adopting the mindset of the studio musician, Steve became very versatile, soaking up styles like Ragtime, Country Blues, Delta Blues, Swing Jazz, Fusion, and many others. This versatility made Steve an in-demand guitarist in California.
Offered the opportunity to travel and perform, Steve entertained the United States military with the Pop-Funk group Hi-Wire, hitting Japan, Korea, Guam, the Philippines, Hawaii, and many small islands en route. After returning to the States he was offered the guitar slot with the Country Rock group Kay Austin and traveled extensively around the U.S. and Canada.
The chance to audition with the show group The Delegation arose and Steve got the gig and relocated to Salt Lake City to perform with that high-energy band. While studying Tai Chi, Steve realized he craved the tranquility of New Mexico and moved to Santa Fe. Right away he cofounded the very popular dance band Funktuation and enjoyed local success with that primarily original group. What followed were several different opportunities with Chris Calloway, Zenobia, The Cookin’ Band, The Soul Deacons, Georgie Angel, Jumpstart, Soul Static, and more.
Steve now calls Los Ranchos de Albuquerque home and performs regularly as the Covid-19 Pandemic winds down. Catch Steve with the classic band Monsoon, performing great tunes of the ’60s and ’70s.
